Great spot, right next to Blickling Hall, superb food & drink, perfect service and dog friendly. Booked in for a mid week evening meal and drinks for my mum's birthday. Although I'd walked and driven past many times, is never been in before - I was pleasantly surprised. I mean, it's a great looking pub from the outside anyway, but it's consistent inside too. It's an old world pub, full of little nooks to settle down in with your pint, and at the same time a well laid out restaurant. Although the menu had a good variety, I succumbed to the excessive seafood options and had mussels and a salmon rarebit starter - both were superb, homemade and served in generous portions. The rest of the table shared my thoughts. Service was great, delivered by two waiters, both of which were very tentative and polite. The price was as to be expected with a quality Norfolk country pub; affordable, given the quality. Added bonus was that it was dog friendly! Highly recommended for Blickling visitors, and people looking for a good gastro pub in Norfolk. Will 100% be visiting again!
We went for dinner at the Buckinghamshire Arms at 9.05 pm but were informed that the restaurant was already shut... as it shut at 9.00 PM. We were then informed that the chef had already gone home... this I believe not to be true as most chefs have to clean down after service and surely they must have more than one chef...We then ordered a beer and a glass of wine + x2 packets of crisps and was charged over 15 for the privilege. This has to be the most expensive .....pub?? ... restaurant.??? (Or is it Michelin star ????) in Norfolk. I was really shocked... Brexit hasn't happened yet... has it????Also..They have a small bar which could be lovely.... but unfortunately it is also where all the staff hang out seemingly after 9pm,so making it a not very interment nor welcoming....we definitely felt like we were in the way...staff rule... ya...We then finished our drinks and swiftly lefted..
Went here for a meal on new years eve and had a lovely meal. Was a little disappointed to start as being a fish lover their online menu was the reason why we booked, lots of fish options however the menu on the evening was much smaller. Scallops to start were cooked really well The fish pie was truly the best fish pie I have ever had, it was huge! The brownie for dessert was also amazing all soft and gooey inside just how it should be! Credit to the chef. Boyfriend was not keen on his main, the pork stroganoff, mainly the sauce which had too many lumps of garlic and gherkins in, however he said the actual pork was good quality chunks with no fat. We couldn't move when we got home as we had overeaten, would recommend sharing a dessert as three courses nearly finished us off!! Staff were friendly although service was a little slow. Overall really good food, thank you.
This is a hugely popular pub because of its location. It obviously has character and is an okay pub but the actual bar is very tiny.
We stayed for two nights - a delightful hotel - very nice staff who were unfailingly helpful, friendly and efficient - not 'drilled' in what to say to us but just naturally nice people who obviously liked what they do. Our room was large and comfortable with a lovely view of Blickling Hall which we visited. The whole place pleasingly unpretentious in decoration but in lovely country taste. The food was nice - huge helpings! - freshly made. Highly recommended.
